New Artists Show part I
18 October - 17 November
Opening Thursday 18 October, 6pm
Curated by Alex Davidson and Caterina Riva
Karin Hofko will present a performance during the opening at 7pm. Karin Hofko is an artistic duo that has been collaborating since 1979. Her work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind.
Lance Pearce will install a new series of sculptures. He employs common materials and familiar objects stripped from their original function and given new, unexpected and ultimately performative configurations that suggest narratives but displace both certainty and resolution. Lance is completing his Master of Visual Art at the School of Art and Design, AUT.
Ella Sutherland is a graphic designer whose practice investigates relationships in certain social situations. At Artspace she will exhibit her analysis of All The Cars Stolen In Auckland, complemented by the publication Popular Brands To Steal. Based in Christchurch, Ella is completing her Masters in Fine Arts at Canterbury University and is the co-director of Dog Park Art Project Space.
Shannon Te Ao and Iain Frengley will show, for the first time, their collaborative film Untitled (Andersons Bay Study) shot in the past month in the location with the same name in Dunedin. Iain Frengley graduated with a Masters degree in Science Communication and Natural History filmmaking from Otago University, Dunedin. Shannon Te Ao graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland. They initiated their collaboration in 2011 and are currently artists in residence at the Rita Angus Cottage in Wellington.
A publication designed by Ella Sutherland will follow the exhibition with texts on the artists by Anya Henis, Alex Davidson, Ashlin Raymond and Caterina Riva ►
