Artspace Welcomes Bridget Riggir-Cuddy as Assistant Curator

Friday, 26 January 2018 2:48:51 p.m.

Artspace is pleased to confirm the appointment of Bridget Riggir-Cuddy as Assistant Curator.

Bridget comes to this role from her temporary appointment at the beginning of 2017 as Curatorial Assistant at Artspace NZ. She is now promoted to her new position, confirming exceptional growth within the curatorial responsibilities and ambitions of both Bridget as well as Artspace NZ. The appointment is for one year.

Bridget studied Art History and Media Studies at the University of Auckland and in 2016 completed an MFA at Elam School of Fine Arts. From 2015 - 2017 Bridget was a co-director at RM gallery and interim Curatorial Assistant at Artspace NZ in 2017. Bridget has worked independently on curatorial and editorial projects over the last three years, recently including On the Grounds with Misal Adnan Yildiz (2017), online publication Bodies in the Market and Bodies and The Conversational Research Hui both as part of The Physics Room Blue Oyster Emerging Curators programme (2016).

This new role confirms Artspace’s ongoing and solid ambition to be a long-term mentorship and support organisation, providing significant training and development opportunities for New Zealand curators and artists. The appointment takes the experiences from previous positions such as the Curatorial Assistant Internship, that has been running for over a decade and was supported by Dame Jenny Gibbs, and the Tautai Education Internship position, currently in its fifth year. The role is the first restructure of Artspace’s intern and training programme, aiming to provide opportunities across all of Artspace’s organisation. With this position we are now able to add a more senior position to this and confirm our dedicated approach to professional development.

‘Bridget is a very capable and energetic curator. I am sure that with this appointment we can support Bridget’s wider ambitions and for Artspace to be able to learn from her curatorial vision and experiences. It is important that we continue to provide another level to what were already extensive and historical learning programmes that Artspace has offered.’

- Remco De Blaaij

 Director of Artspace

Bridget’s position is supported and funded by the the Perpetual Guardian Stout Trust.
